Access to affordable healthcare is a pressing issue for Michiganders, with over half of residents delaying or skipping treatment due to high costs. Our organizations, representing patients, healthcare providers, and community advocates, are united in improving access to affordable, innovative treatments and ensuring that healthcare serves those who need it most.
While HB 5350 aims to address healthcare affordability, we believe it is premature. The federal 340B Drug Discount Program, central to this bill, has strayed from its original mission of supporting vulnerable communities. Evidence shows that the program fails to lower costs for patients in need, and its benefits are disproportionately concentrated in affluent neighborhoods, leaving underserved areas behind.
With the program under federal investigation and bipartisan reform efforts underway, we urge Michigan legislators to pause and ensure future actions truly serve the interests of patients.
Let’s work together to ensure every Michigander has access to the affordable, equitable care they deserve.
